OUR STORY

How Tegak Advocate Came to Be

Tegak Advocate was founded in Putrajaya with a straightforward purpose: to handle inheritance matters in a way that the people affected could follow and understand. The practice was set up by legal practitioners who had observed that much of the difficulty in estate and succession matters came not from the law itself but from the way legal work was communicated — or not communicated — to those who needed it most.

The name Tegak carries a meaning in Malay — upright, standing firm, in good order. That is the spirit in which the practice operates. Documents are prepared carefully. Files are kept in proper sequence. Clients are told what is happening at each stage, in language that does not require a legal background to follow.

The practice works with individuals and families across the Federal Territory and the wider Klang Valley region. Most clients come with one of three concerns: they need a will drawn up, they need help with a probate application, or they need a set of living documents to put in place. Each of these matters is handled as a distinct engagement, with its own clear process and a realistic account of timelines and what to expect.

The office is located in Presint 4, Putrajaya — a location chosen for its accessibility to clients in the federal territory and surrounding areas. Appointments are available on weekdays and Saturday mornings. Initial consultations can be conducted by telephone for those who find a visit inconvenient at the outset.

MISSION AND VALUES

What This Practice Stands For

Straightforward Work

The work is explained at every stage. Nothing is left to assumption. Each document is reviewed with the client before signing.

Measured Pace

Legal matters in inheritance and succession take the time they take. We do not rush the work and do not make commitments about timelines we cannot keep.

Confidentiality

All client matters are handled with strict confidence. Files are not shared with any party outside those the client has authorised.

Respect for the Client

We do not assume what the client already knows. Every term and process is explained from first principles, as many times as needed.

Client files are held under strict confidentiality. Access is limited to the personnel directly involved in the matter, and files are not shared without written authorisation.

EXPERTISE AND CONTEXT

Inheritance Legal Services in Putrajaya

Estate and succession law in Malaysia involves a number of distinct processes depending on whether the deceased left a valid will, the size and composition of the estate, and the jurisdiction of the assets involved. Tegak Advocate focuses on three of the most common areas: will drafting for individuals who wish to set their affairs in order; probate applications for executors who have been appointed under a valid will; and the preparation of living documents — including powers of attorney and advance care directives — for those who wish to put in place arrangements for incapacity.

The practice operates within the legal framework governing these matters in Malaysia, including the Wills Act 1959, the Probate and Administration Act 1959, the Powers of Attorney Act 1949, and the relevant provisions of Syariah law where applicable. Clients are advised at the outset which framework applies to their circumstances and what that means for their options.

Putrajaya and the wider Klang Valley are home to a large and diverse population with varied legal needs in relation to inheritance and estate planning. Tegak Advocate serves individuals and families in the Federal Territory and neighbouring areas, offering a practice that prioritises clarity over complexity and careful execution over speed.

For those arranging their affairs for the first time — whether through a will, a power of attorney, or a probate application — the process can seem unfamiliar. The practice is set up to make that first step straightforward, with an initial consultation that explains what is involved before any commitment is required.
